The Oregon PIRC works with educators throughout the state to strengthen their efforts to serve children and families. We do this through a variety of activities and resources:
Targeted Training and Technical Assistance
Our technical assistance activities:
- Assist schools and districts in aligning parent involvement policies and practices with their continuous improvement plans
- Provide training workshops, email and telephone technical assistance, and targeted on-site technical assistance to schools and districts around the state
- Help schools and districts meet their diverse parent involvement goals
We also work in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Oregon Association for Comprehensive Education (OACE) to put on the Annual OACE Winter Conference, which provides resources and training opportunities that help educators build strong partnerships with families.
Print and Online Resources
The Oregon PIRC develops and compiles many useful resources for educators, including:
We also provide a number of materials for Family Involvement Coordinators that can be used during parent meetings or conferences:
- Parent Pages newsletters (in both Spanish and English) that can be used as handouts or inserted into your own newsletter.
- Technical Assistance Packages that include electronic training sessions, handouts, and suggested activities and discussion questions in both English and Spanish, (with audio and video segments).
- Online Learning Modules that can assist families in understanding the provisions of NCLB and ESEA, as well as provide them with skills and information to help their children succeed in school.
Resources planned for completion and dissemination in the near future include:
- A searchable database of Best Practices in Oregon Schools which will provide snapshots from Oregon's schools that have developed best practices in reaching out to and partnering with diverse families
- Online training modules that will explore such topics as principal leadership in parent involvement and how to engage families in developing policies and school improvement planning
